I have been doing a weblog for over two years snd have used various blogging scripts. I'd really like to move the blog to pagesetter, but I need a variation of the news template that allows me to sort articles by PUBLICAION date and allows me to backdate the publication date to the original date of publication so when I set up the pgarchive for this publication, the posts will show up with their original publication date. Doable?????? I will buy you dinner for this one :-)

That sounds very doable :-D And it sounds quite like what I did for my episode guides/fan fiction archive on my website.

Did I get it right that you need a publication type with the following features:
    - 1 html text field plus one heading
    - publications sorted by their creation date instead of last update
    - possibility to change the sorting by one click
    - maybe as well possibility to search for a keyword

I'm pretty sure you can do that really easy and fast even if you would like a picture upload field that isn't used for every blog entry.

Not quite. I'd like to be able to sort by PUBLICATION date. I am moving two years worth of blog posts from WordPress to PS and the only wayI can get the sort order right is to manually change the creation date using phpMyAdmin. Pgarchive allows sort by publication dat but I made my blog publicationthe default home page and the posts get all messed up unless I change the creation date.

Also it would be very cool if this could be automatically integraated with the pgcalendar to show the post title as a link in the calendar classic view.

For NEW blogs the News template works fine but some of us have been blogging for longerthan pagesetter has been around and it would be nice to have our blog archives intact in PS and havethem show up in the original chronological order.

Why not a date field in there and use it as the sort field? maybe even custom the date input and make it set to today if blank.

    Take Care,

Oh I understand, the date the publication went online is the one you need for sorting. I thought you were talking about a completely new Blog. I'm not sure about how to set a date field to today if blank. I've never tried and always thought that's not possible.

For integration with the pgcalendar you will need a date/time field, a field for the heading and a text/html field. That should work as it is exactly what you seem to be looking for.

Would it be possible to use something like the ListGrouper plugin:
    http://pagesetter.org/index.php?module=pagesetter&func=viewpub&tid=4&pid=58

to display blog posts sorted by username? Wouldn't that be almost like having automatic categories of blog posts based on usernames of the posters?

I don't know if I am really explaining hat I need correctly so let me try again.

The News template is pretty close to what I want but what I need is only one date - call it whatever you want. This datehas to bea date I can set to whatever I want - including backdating or forward dating and this date has to be the prinary sort field for the publication. That way I can add older posts from other blogger tools like Wordpress to the publication and this date has to be in the list of pgarchivee sort fields.

As far as pgcalendar goes. given my total lack of programming skills, I would need a revised classic template that would make the necessary PS calls to show the heding (title) in the correct date of the calendar. If this were doable in straight HTML I could do it, but this requires php (?) calls that I do not feel competent to write.

I hope this clears things up and, just for the record, I am the only author on my blog. Reader input is handled with EZComments.

You could try the blogging template someone recently uploaded on pagesetter.org . Please provide some feedback since I didn't test it:
    direct link here:

Also I think ferretlover is on the right track for what u want to do : just add an extra datefield to the newspublication and use that for sorting...
