    Hello,

i tested mediashare 0.0.0.0 and i think that the usabillity is much easier then in photoshare.

    Good work.

But i would like to import my photoshare albums into mediashare 1.0.0.0 (when it is finished). Is a import planed?

    Thanks for the info

    AND
    Thanks for your great modules

Will there be a possibility of moving photoshare pictures stored in the DB to mediashare items stored on disk? This would really save me a lot of trouble...

importing photoshare-db-pix to mediashare-db-media is possible too? since we dont use filesystem for pix. photoshares possibility to store pix into db was one of the main reasons why we started usin photoshare some years ago.

Yes. I haven't tested it yet - but it will work in the initial release.

But - Mediashare won't support database image storing in the initial version. So images will be moved to disk.

This is a bit hard to answer ... I won't promis it, but I do expect to add it. It might although not get first priority.

k then i will stay at photoshare until its done. since its a nono to store pictuers onto filesystem. if we would use filesystem for storing pix we could had continue our old pic storage system ;)
i think storing pictures (or medias) into db is the best step you ever did, since it makes photoshare independent of:
    diskspace
    machine
    complicated sync processes

we use photoshare in a large cluster (db circle replication, native cluster via mysql5 is planed)

however thanx for your honest answers. we are excited to check our mediashare when its done.

Well - using the DB hurts performance quite a lot compared to just letting the webserver serve the images directly from disk.

Anyway, keep an eye on development.

well the only performance issue we had is the photoshare plugin for pagesetter since it loads ALL images as thumbs. i would recommend loading ONLY those which are selected and loading contents of ablums first when selected too. we already posted a issue about this some years ago. ;)

if you have a large site you must have a good database in the background no matter if you ise photoshare or not. if you have a good configured database server/cluster you wont have any performance issues (except the one mentioned above and earlier, but THAT also accurs when storing pix into filesystem since it is a concept problem. not a good idea to load thousands of pics everytime someone wants to insert a photoshare picture into a pagesetter publiction :D

however, my dreams may come true if we have a mediashare which extends the present features of photoshare by different mediatypes as flash video sounds mp3 wav tiff...

    regards
