Why new product instead of new version of Photoshare?

Why new product instead of new version of Photoshare?

Because Mediashare is a completely new media gallery - it is not a new version of Photoshare. It builds on ideas from Photoshare but doesn't share much code.

And because Photoshare is misleading when you can also upload Flash, Quicktime and other non-image files.

What are (will be) the advantages of using Mediashare over Photoshare?

    - Handling other types of media files than images.
    - Not only online thumbnail generation, but also preview image generation (bigger than thumbnails, smaller than the original).
    - pnRender based.
    - PN hooks aware.
    - Improved performance.
    - Better code - easier and more interesting to maintain.

    Thank you for the comments!

    What is pnRender for and
what does it mean "PN hooks aware"?

pnRender is the templating system PostNuke uses today. Please look it up on forums.postnuke.com or similar.

PostNuke hooks are "add-ons" like Ratings and Comments - allowing you to rate and comment stuff from various modules. In practice this means you can get smilies, comments and other stuff for Mediashare. Please look it up on postnuke.com too.

will mediashare itself support hooks. e.g. applying mediashare to the user module making it possible to use avatars from mediashare AS avatar?! ;)

Dunno :-) Perhaps. It's not in the plans.
