i am unable to add text in the fields for "author" and "created"

also, no itmes appear in the drop down menu for the sorting keys

when editing the publication types, the items appear in the drop down fine

You cannot change "created" - thats by purpose. I don't know why you cannot change the author field. Send me a screenshot (mail at bottom of page).

after you explained the "created" can't be changed by purpose. i see that the author field is not a bug, but a misunderstanding.

under the publication type configuration screen, both core "author" and core "created" can't be changed by purpose.

however, under the publication edit screen, in the author information box, you have "creator" which is the same as "author" from the publicaton type config screen. then under the edit screen you also have "author", which fills in the real name of the author. but this field can be changed to any name. so, the "author" fields under both screens can end up not matching. this is how i got to the misunderstanding of the fields content.

to avoid the misunderstanding, maybe it would be better to rename "author" from the pub type config screen to "publisher". in the edit screen, change "creator" to "publisher" then there is only one "author" field in the edit screen, which can still be changed to anything.

I'll take a look at it.
