I've been trying (to no avail) to find a workable File Upload module; none of the ones I've tried so far will actually work on our server due to some kind of safe-mode-related problems (but not the usual one -- safe mode is off on our server).

I've been investigating galleries. This one is very promising, except that it doesn't support uploading anything besides images.

It would be great if it could be used to upload files other than images. Yes, I understand that it's a gallery, but the existing file upload modules for PostNuke are dismal failures, and the difference between "images" and "files" is purely semantic.

Well, the difference is not only semantic - it also has a lot to do with presentation (thumbnails, slideshows etc.). So Photoshare is not in the near future going to be a generic up/download system.
