I just tried this out and it works on my site!

I thought it was a bit of a bore to have to use FTP every time I add a new news topic icon. As it turns out, Photoshare works fine for this too!

First you need to go to the admin screen "Topics" icon.
Then click on "Topics Configuration" at the bottom.
Change the Topics images path to "index.php?module=photoshare&func=viewimage&"
    Click "Submit" (of course!)

Now go back to the admin screen "Topics" icon.
click on an existing topic to alter it or strat entering data for a new topic.

In the "Topic Image" field, enter (for example) "iid=NNN"
where NNN= the image Id of the photoshare image you want to use.

Save your work and viola! You have a photoshare image as a topic icon!
Of course, you will have to change all your existing topics as well, so you had better put them in photoshare fist if you want to use this for real.

    Good luck using this trick,
    Dennis.

If you don't want to switch ALL of you topic images to PS, don't change the topics image path and change the topic image to:
    ../../index.php?module=photoshare&func=viewimage&iid=NNN

Unfortunately this will require phpMyAdmin (or SQL) because to topic image form field is only about 20 characters wide. The above code is UNTESTED, but I did the same thing with my MultiImage module. You can see this at: http://curttimmerman.net/pn/ . Each time you refresh you will see different topic icons.

The above topic icon trick does not work in pn750. For some reason the lastest version checks for a valid image file and doesn't display anything if a valid image is not found. :(
