One thing that working with how best to implement right column blocks in pagesetter content has made me fret over the issues that arise since pagesetter acts as multiple modules in one but as far as i know has only control over blocks applied to the entire module rather than on a pubType to pubType basis. This is problematic.

How do you hang differnet blocks for different pubtypes? right now, if i add blocks to my main them rt column, they appear in EVERY pagestter page, including my archive lists and admin pages. If I create another pubType (as I expect to to cover reviews), I want a different set of blocks to hang there than in my articles. Is something like this possible?

I tried adding a XTE block zone within a pagesetter tpl so i could hang blocks from within a pagestter pubType, but for whatever reason, the syntax for blockzones is not processed by pagesetter and you cant hang blocks there after adding the code. I'd really like to figure ouit if this is possible as this would single handedly go a long way to letting you solve the different blocks for different sections of pagesetter content issue.

I then realized the problems I would have going forward after adding the blocks to the main theme rt col as described, in tht ALL pagestter pages no matter what they were have these blocks, which is undesirabel. Id like no column in my admin page, and a differnet set of blocks in my archive listing, and different blocks in articles and reviews pubTypes... so i tried moving the content of the rt column into the pubType tpl.

this worked for ads and links to articles just fine, but if i want to add any other blocks content within the pubType tpl, it doesnt seem I can. Id really like to be able to add a poll and a block of my photo galleryt in these areas, but without making blockzones work within pagesetter tpls, I may be at an impasse.

so to recap: if i put blocks in main them rt column, can have whwtaver block content i want, but it will be the saem across ALL pagesetter pubTypes, which I dont want. I cant put normal blocks within a specific pubType, but can hack in some of the stuff Id want there, but my choices are quite limited. But this is the only way to go I can see if i want different block content in different areas of pagesetter. as far as adding blocks to my archive lists without adding them to main theme column (which would add them to articles etc), i have no idea how to do this. tricky huh?

has anyone used multiple publication Types of pagesetter on one site? if so, how did you handle the supplementary block content you hang around the pagesetter meat? very curious on how to approach this problem...

I'm sorry but I'm still not able to help. It looks like you are trying the right things, and your conclusions are also correct as far as I can see. So, yes, apparently there's a problem with the blocks.

so we've hit a XTE snag with adding blockzones. hmm, too bad. maybe someone will figure out whats up eventually that gets XTE better than me.

aside from that though, do you have a recommened way of making it so i can have different blocks in each different pagesetter pubType? has this ever been done by anyone? surely this is a feature that anyone using multiple pubTypes would be interested in yes?

Main question:do i have to settle for simulating some blocks by hardcoding what i want into the pubType tpl itself? [this is clearly suboptimal and loses amny advantages of 'blocks' and such) Is there any other way to have block content vary in different areas of pagesetter? essentially, id like to be able to treat each pubType as a seperate module effectively. anyone? lets move this ball forward :)

I am using differnet puTypes in the site too. And I need the same functionalyity of different rt blocks by pubTypes too.

So this week my target will be to find out how solve this problem. But I am not using XTE, cause I am 'hanging' special webdesign and I am not sure that I could dress my site with XTE

I've been searching for a solution to controlling blocks for different pub types and found this old thread. Has this been solved?

When using Pagesetter as the homepage module and a few other types, I want to show right blocks on most of them, but not on admin pages and a few that need more space. On some I would like to remove left blocks as well.

But in Xanthia Block Control there is just one listing per module, so Pagesetter has just one arangment, but since pgCalendar is a module it can have seperate control.

Have I missed a way to do this?

Try this, it's not an optimal solution but it works

Thanks for that link, I'll keep it for future projects. For this site it turns out I really only need right blocks on the home page, so I just called the blocks in the home.html template and not in the master.html.

    Thanks,

    Damon
